Salary: £12.60 – £14.86 per hour

About the Role:
SEA Support Services are looking for a dedicated Support Worker to join a small, person-centred team supporting a profoundly deaf young adult man with CHARGE syndrome and complex needs, who lives in supported living with one other resident.
You’ll be part of a small, experienced support team providing 1:1 support to help him live his life to the fullest.
Your role will include:
- Supporting him with all aspects of daily living, including personal care, meals, household tasks and shopping.
- Encouraging and facilitating activities that he enjoys, such as walking, cycling, climbing, swimming, baking, and supporting him in vocational activities at the David Lewis Centre two days a week.
- Encouraging independence and supporting him to learn new skills at his own pace.
- Supporting his communication and sensory needs using agreed approaches, including sign language and visual communication methods.
- Working collaboratively with his family, health professionals, and your team to ensure consistent, high-quality support.
- Maintaining clear records and following his individual support plan.
About the Young Man
He is generally a happy and easy-going young man with a determined personality. He enjoys spending time outdoors, walking and cycling using his special tricycle, as well as climbing and swimming. He loves routines and feels happiest when surrounded by people who understand him and communicate with him in ways that make him feel secure and valued.
Because of his profound deafness, severe learning disabilities, and multi-sensory impairments, he uses a variety of communication methods, including sign language, gestures, picture symbols, and consistent routines.
At times, he may display obsessive or challenging behaviours, and your ability to stay calm, patient, and consistent is important. Building trust and understanding takes time — but when he connects with you, the rewards are enormous.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Experience as a Support Worker for children or adults with severe learning disabilities/complex needs or multi-sensory impairments (MSI).
- Experience or knowledge of CHARGE syndrome (desirable but not essential).
- NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care (training can be provided if not yet achieved).
- The ability to work effectively as part of an established team.
- Deaf aware, with a good understanding of individual communication needs.
- Ability to demonstrate empathy, patience, and a strong commitment to person-centred support.
- British Sign Language (BSL) Level 1 or above.
- Knowledge or experience of using picture symbols, visual timetables, and other alternative communication methods.
- Intervenor training – desirable.
- Dysphagia training – desirable.
- Full UK driving licence (client has own Motability car for transport).
Personal Qualities
You’ll need to be cheerful, good fun, expressive, and engaging — someone who can bring positivity and energy into his daily life. You should be patient and calm under pressure, with the ability to build rapport through warmth, consistency, and creative communication. Most of all, you’ll be someone who truly enjoys helping others live full, meaningful lives.
